Building to begin on health clinic

Breaking some nice prepared ground for the new medical clinic in Hailey are, from left to right, Blaine County Commissioner Larry Schoen, Drs. Kathy Woods, Rich Paris and Frank Batcha, Nurse Practitioner Emily Karassik, St. Luke’s WRMC director Bruce Jensen, Rev. Shawn McCarty of Emmanuel Episcopal, Physician Assistant Julie Watson, President of the Board of St. Luke’s WRMC Morley Golden, Hailey Mayor Rick Davis and Dr. Carl Barbee.

A ground breaking for St. Luke's Clinic in Hailey was held on Thursday, July 17. Mayor Rick Davis and Blaine County Commissioner Larry Schoen along with health care professionals and other members of the community were on hand for the ceremony at a lot on Aviation Drive.

Accompanying the event was classical music by the Sue Mendelsohn trio. Full Moon Catering supplied refreshments and treats for about 100 people.

In 1994 St. Luke's, based in Boise but with several satellite facilities, began work with the community and the Moritz Hospital and its foundation to create a new hospital in Blaine County. In the fall of 2000 the $35.5 million, 110,000-sq. foot St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center opened its doors.

Earlier this year, St. Luke's took over the former Hailey Medical Clinic in Hailey and renamed it St. Luke's Family Medicine. The seven board certified physicians who work primarily out of the clinic will eventually occupy the new St. Luke's Clinic.

Joining St. Luke's Family Medicine will be St. Luke's Center for Community Health, which is currently on North Main in Hailey. As well there will be a satellite office for St. Luke's Idaho Elks Rehabilitation Services.
