Missing man rescued from wilderness

An 87-year-old man was rescued from the East Fork of the Salmon River area on Sunday after being lost for three days.

KTVB-TV reported Monday that the man, whose name was not released, was transported to a Boise hospital where he was recovering from the ordeal.

The Custer County Sheriff's Office reported that the man was found at an old mining area near the river. He had been missing since last week when he went for a ride on a four-wheeler.

Center to be sold

The Sun Valley Center for the Arts recently entered into an agreement to sell its property at Washington Avenue and Fifth Street to the Wood River Jewish Community. The completion of the deal is dependent on both non-profit organizations achieving their fundraising goals. WRJC recently completed its due diligence inspection of the property.

Both the Center and WRJC are looking to expand their horizons. The Center is working to develop its proposed new facility, at the corner of Fourth Street and Second Avenue in Ketchum.

The WRJC is anticipating growth in membership and the desire for its first permanent house of worship and community center.

The sale of The Center's current property is conditional upon successful fundraising efforts by both community-based organizations. The Center's goal is $15 million for the building project, including the costs of the land.

Attorney/author to read at library

Housing guidelines' adoption rescheduled

The Blaine County Housing Authority on July 16 postponed the scheduled adoption of its draft housing guidelines until Aug. 27 in order to accommodate comments gleaned at two workshops with Hailey and Ketchum city leaders earlier this month.

"We discussed that input, and we are looking to have them adopted at the following meeting, which will be Aug. 27," said Housing Authority Office Manager Nancy Smith.

The authority previously met June 11 to discuss the document, which establishes rules and procedures on how stocks of deed-restricted community housing in Blaine County are managed, distributed and procured.

The guidelines were most recently updated in 2005.

The guidelines are available on the housing authority's Web site at www.bcoha.org. Click on "Documents" and then "2008 Updated Draft Housing Guidelines."

Smart Growth looks at transportation

Idaho residents can help improve alternative transportation in Idaho through a series of meetings scheduled by Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter and the Idaho Transportation Department called "Building Roads, Building Bridges, Building Consensus".

Citizens for Smart Growth, based in Hailey, encourages residents to either travel to a meeting, call, or send a letter.

Smart Growth principles hold that "single-minded highway development will not solve transportation problems," said Smart Growth Director of Outreach & Communication Kelly Jackson. Rather, the organization is in favor of centralized bus stations, pedestrian friendly streets, sidewalks, roundabouts and other measures.

The meeting for ITD District 4 and nearest to the Wood River Valley will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5 in Twin Falls at the Red Lion Hotel-Canyon Springs.

Or send written comments to Jeff Stratten with ITD at comments@itd.idaho.gov or calling (208) 334-8005.
