Woofers and tweeters missing from TJ’s

Stereo speaker parts nabbed

Hailey police are investigating the possible theft of almost $700 worth of speakers and other stereo equipment from TJ's Electric in downtown Hailey.

But investigators aren't sure the stuff was really stolen and are allowing the possibility that it was a delivery mistake.

Hailey Patrol Officer Garth Davis said the story begins on June 19 when UPS made a delivery to the back of the TJ's at Alturas Plaza. An employee dutifully signed a receipt that 23 boxes were delivered, but when the boxes were counted there were only 19.

The problem, said Davis, is "they left them unattended for about 15 minutes."

The possible theft was reported to Hailey police last Friday. Davis said TJ's delayed reporting the missing containers because they were hopeful they would still be delivered. But they weren't.

"They spoke to the employees and they don't think the employees did it," Davis said, speculating that someone may have driven by a grabbed the missing containers when they were unattended.

Davis said the boxes contained stereo amplifier parts and speakers including "woofers and tweeters."
