SV5B swimmers bring home short course medals

From Elko "High Altitude" meet


Sun Valley 5B's swimming squad brought the heat to the annual Elko "High Altitude" Invitational Swim Meet, Jun. 28-29 in the Nevada pool.

Each local swimmer brought home at least one top-five finish in the only short course meter meet of the year.

Kaedi Fry, 11, led the way with three gold medals.

Lena Friesen, 13, set a new pool record in girls' 13-14 100 breast (1:20.88) and 200 breast (2:51.48)—the 200 time qualifying Friesen for Western Zone competition later in August.

Taylor Coiner, 16, also set a new pool record in the girls' 15-16 200 IM (2:42.67).

In relay competition, Michael Coiner, 16, Taylor Coiner, Lena Friesen, and Elizabeth Fry, 14, teamed to win the 13-over 200 free by five seconds. The foursome also took second place in the 200 medley relay.

Top results for SV5B were:

First places—Kaedi Fry 50 breast, 100 back and 50 back; Michael Coiner 800 free and 200 back; and Lena Friesen 400 free.

Second places—Lena Friesen 100 free, 100 breast, 200 back, 200 free, 200 breast, 50 free and 100 Back; Kaedi Fry 100 free, 200 free, 100 breast and 50 free; Max Jones 200 back and 200 free; Taylor Coiner 200 breast and 50 free; Michael Coiner 100 back; Elizabeth Fry 100 back; and Adam Potts 100 back.

Third places—Taylor Coiner 100 free, 100 breast and 400 free; Elizabeth Fry 200 back; Adam Potts 200 back, 200 free and 200 breast; Max Jones 400 free and 50 free; and Michael Coiner 200 free.

Among fourth places—Zoey Olbum 200 back and 200 breast.
