Housing plan falls short

This is an open letter to the mayor and City Council—Thunder Springs inability to meet its commitments and obey laws:

1. When Dave Sellgren/Thunder Springs initially asked to build the maintenance and equipment building at the corner of Saddle Road and Highway 75, they committed to keep the site hidden from Stirrup Lane by building a fence or screening in appropriately. None of the Thunder Springs owners have met this commitment. If this is an example of how Thunder Springs is going to hide or shade the proposed affordable housing, the town is in trouble.

2. Thunder Springs has not met its previous commitments to build community housing on the property where it is suppose to go. To meet this commitment Thunder Springs is now attempting to confiscate open space in perpetuity land.

3. Thunder Springs/VPI or Dave Hutchinson failed to meet the commitment to have the property staked and ballooned for the P&Z design and review meeting on June 6th. Maybe it was because they would need to close the golf course because the proposed housing will be encroaching on the fairway of the current eighth golf-hole.

4. Just this week it was observed that Thunder Springs is illegally accessing Highway 75 from the maintenance building area. When the shed was initially built, Thunder Springs made a commitment to not access Hwy. 75 from this maintenance and equipment site. On Wednesday, June 18, a white pickup or white van jumped suddenly out of the shed area, turned quickly left onto Highway. 75 and nearly sideswiped Janet Dunbar, a resident of Stirrup Lane, as she was headed south. There are tire tracks that show there has been much usage of this unauthorized access by drivers. Not only is accessing Highway 75 from the maintenance area illegal, it is extremely dangerous. Please notify the street or traffic departments to see what needs to be done to make Thunder Springs obey the laws of our city.

What makes the council think that all of sudden Thunder Springs is going to start making or meeting its commitments or is going to start obeying the laws of the city and ITD?
