Police break up fight in Hailey

A 19-year-old Hailey man was treated and released at St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center following a fight Tuesday night on Second Avenue North in Hailey.

Richard Nieves was taken to the hospital by Wood River Fire and Rescue ambulance following the fracas around 8 p.m.

"He appeared to have been beaten up—blood was flowing from the facial area," said Hailey police Lt. Steve England.

Nieves' alleged assailant was 26-year-old Matthew Richardson, also of Hailey, who England said faces misdemeanor charges of battery, possession of drug paraphernalia and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. England said both men had allegedly been drinking and Nieves faces a charge of minor consumption because he is only 19.

Two Hailey patrol vehicles, a Blaine County Sheriff's Office unit and the ambulance responded to the call. England said it's not certain how the fight started but it looks like there was a party that got out of hand.

"We're still looking into it," England said. "It doesn't look like there's going to be any felonies. We believe there was a couple of other people under 21 that were there but we're still trying to find them."
