Class of 1988 sets reunion

Wood River High School's Class of 1988 has scheduled a 20-year reunion for July 11-12.

Festivities begin at 7 p.m. Friday, July 11, with dinner and drinks at the Big Wood Grill patio at Big Wood Golf Course, north of Ketchum.

A family picnic is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, at picnic area Site B on the north shore of Redfish Lake.

Baldy lifts open Saturday

Lifts on Bald Mountain will open once again, with summer service from the base of River Run starting on Saturday, June 28.

Lift operation will be from 9 a.m. to the last round-trip at 3:15 p.m.

Cost of a single adult ride will be $15 and $20 for an all-day pass; children ages 3 through 12 can ride all day for $10 or once for $7.

In order to protect elk during calving season, mountain bikes will not be allowed on the lifts until Tuesday, July 1.

All mountain bikers must sign a waiver and wear a helmet. Downhill mountain bikes rented from Pete Lane's sports store at the base of Baldy will include a free lift ticket, trail map, lock and helmet.

Free food giveaway in Hailey

The Blaine County Hunger Coalition, in conjunction with the Freedom Resource Center of Idaho and Idaho Food Bank, will give away free food baskets at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Hailey, 311 First Ave. S., on Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Food baskets will include meat, milk, bread, vegetables and nonperishable items. They will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.

Attend 'Local Wild Film Festival'

The debut of the "Local Wild Film Festival" will take place Friday, June 28, at 7 p.m. at the nexStage Theatre in Ketchum. Tickets are $10 at the door and there will be door prizes, beer and wine as well as hors d'oeuvres. The festival is a creation of Wild Gift, a Wood River Valley nonprofit organization founded by Bob Jonas.

The festival will showcase films on landscape, wildlife, sport activities and human interest. For details, call 726-8579.

Hilary Hemingway joins festival

Ernest Hemingway's niece, Hilary Hemingway, will be the keynote speaker for the fourth annual Ernest Hemingway Festival in Sun Valley Sept. 25-28. Hilary and her husband, Jeff Lindsay, will present a documentary film on Ernest Hemingway in Cuba.

The festival will include discussions of Ernest's life and work in Cuba, lectures and panel discussions by national scholars, a tour of Hemingway sites, book readings, museum displays and an "Evening in Cuba" party.

Sun Valley/Ketchum BAH set

Sawtooth Botanical Gardens will host June's Business After Hours event on Thursday, June 26, from 5-7 p.m. at the gardens located at Gimlet Road and state Highway 75.

Food and beverages for the event will be provided by Albertson's, Desperados, McLain's Pizzeria, CIRO, Ric Lum, and Sawtooth Botanical Garden trustees.

The Sun Valley-Ketchum Chamber & Visitors Bureau encourages local businesses to use the monthly event as a networking opportunity.

Learn about wild horse training

Acclaimed wild horse trainer Mario Johnson will return to the area to hold a gentling clinic near Fairfield on Thursday, June 26.

The demonstration, which is open to the public, will be held at the Zephyr Ranch, eight miles east of Fairfield on Elk Creek Road, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The cost for the two-hour clinic is $15. Johnson said there will be signs posted to direct drivers to the ranch. During the demonstration, Johnson will be working with an untrained mustang.

New market opens in Sun Valley

After much anticipation, the Elkhorn Springs Market opened last week, giving Sun Valley residents a long-absent option for food shopping.

With a focus on organic products, the market, located near the Elkhorn Golf Clubhouse, offers everything from cold cuts to produce to beer.

Store hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.

Float at the YMCA

On Saturday, June 28, the Wood River YMCA will host a Flick and Float. Bring the whole family to swim in the YMCA's big indoor pool while watching the movie "Free Willy." Viewers are encouraged to bring noodles and other floating devices. The movie starts at 6:30 p.m.

La Alianza hosts World Cup

Stop by Atkinson Park in Ketchum Saturday, June 28, to watch eight soccer teams representing various nations compete in the La Alianza World Cup Soccer Tournament. The tournament will run from 11 a.m. through 4 p.m. There will also be food, drinks and a variety of activities, including salsa/aerobics, volleyball, a bouncy house, piñatas, Zumba and raffles. Party—YMCA style

Throwing a birthday party for your son or daughter has never been so easy. Animal Center up and running

The Sun Valley Animal Center is back up to full operation, working out of the front offices, formerly The Nature Conservancy, two miles south of Ketchum on state Highway 75.

Drs. Acker and Woog are accepting new and old patients Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

As well, Dr. Acker will continue to provide surgical services at the Sawtooth Animal Center in Bellevue.

Wildflower walk at Redfish

Join author A. Scott Earle on a wildflower walk on Saturday, June 28, at 10 a.m. Meet at the Redfish Lake Visitor Center. Copies of the second edition of Earle's "Idaho Mountain Wildflowers," which includes information on 225 Idaho plants, will be available before and after the walk. The Redfish Lake Visitor Center is located five miles south of Stanley off Highway 75. For details, call 774-3376.
