Watch out for bicycle riders battling the breeze if you're driving on U.S. 20 between Timmerman Hill and Picabo in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 21.
There, the Idaho State Time Trial Championships will be staged on a pavement course as part of the 11th annual Durance Cycleworks Time Trial Series, held under a U.S. Cycling Federation race permit.
First riders leave at 7 a.m. Saturday from the intersection of U.S. 20 and S.H. 75 nine miles south of Bellevue, at the blinking light.
Age groups determine the distances bikers will travel. Leaving first from Timmerman Hill will be the age groups (Juniors, Masters Men over 65 and Masters Women over 60) who are riding 20 kilometers (12.4 miles). Everyone else rides 40 kilometers (24.8 miles).
New this year is an Athlete category, for all riders wishing to race without aero equipment.
There is no day-of-race registration. Registered bicyclists can pick up their numbers today, Friday, June 20 from 1-3 p.m. at Durance Cycleworks in Ketchum, across from the Magic Lantern Cinema. Or pick up numbers Saturday from 6-6:30 a.m. at the Timmerman Hill rest stop.
All entry fees include coffee/tea and biscuits on race morning. The event will be held, rain or shine.
