First tournament for golfers at Valley Club

Cool, windy for President’s Cup


If The Valley Club 27-hole layout isn't enough of a challenge for golfers, the cool weather and windy conditions made things more challenging for the first golf tournament of the season Friday and Saturday, June 6-7 along the mid-valley courses.

Scores were generally high for the club's stroke play member championship called The President's Cup. And the new Fazio Nine took its toll on all the competitors in the four men's flights plus the women's division.

Last year's men's club champion Neil Bradshaw (80-79 for 159) captured the President's Cup men's Championship Flight title. Marilyn Celano (77-78 for 155) handled herself very well as women's medalist.

Men's Championship Flight, gross: 1—Neil Bradshaw 80-79 for 159. 2—Scott Lucas 84-82 for 166. Net: 1—Tim Jeneson 77-72 for 149. 2—Ken Ward 79-75 for 154.

Women's Division, gross: 1—Marilyn Celano 77-78 for 155. 2—Kim Marcus 97-95 for 192. Net: 1—Suzanne Williams 77-71 for 148. 2—Jean Tagliapietra 78-71 for 149.

Men's First Flight, gross: 1—Jerry Boas 80-81 for 161. 2—John Baker 82-81 for 163. Net: 1—Rich Fabiano 86-77 for 163. 2—Richard Shelton 71-73 for 144.

Men's Second Flight, gross: 1—Bruce Kaplan 87-84 for 171. 2—Jay Cassell 86-96 for 182. Net: 1—Bryan Evans 78-69 for 147. 2—Tom Held 73-78 for 151.

Men's Third Flight, gross: 1—Eugene Holman 85-88 for 173. 2—Jerry Mells 94-91 for 185. Net: 1—Hayward Sawyer 74-67 for 141. 2—John Haskell 73-76 for 149.
