The Blaine County Education Foundation recently shared some letters with the Idaho Mountain Express that were written by students or parents as part of Teacher Appreciation Month in May.

Students and parents were asked to write letters for the Foundation's "Thank a Teacher" program. Here are some of our favorites.

Hemingway first grade teacher Kathryn Parnes and student Lindsay Morton. Lindsay wrote: “I love Mrs. Parnes, my first grade teacher. She is the funniest, nicest and most helpful teacher. After changing schools in the middle of the year, Mrs. Parnes helped me to love school again. When I was new, she helped me so much. She is the best teacher in the universe. Thank you Mrs. Parnes. I love you.”
Bellevue first grade teacher Jessica Kolkman and student Evi Johnson. Evi wrote: “Mrs. Kolkman is a very good teacher. She makes my brain work a lot too. Do you know how? Here are some things, like math, and how to write words correct too. She really makes my brain work.”

Bellevue fifth grade teacher Tyson Young and student Austin Krenz. Austin wrote: “The person who has made a difference in my life is Mr. Young. He has taught me so much about school, but the three most important things he has taught me is respect, responsibility and relationship. At the beginning of the school year I got in trouble so much because I didn’t respect my teachers, and Mr. Young helped me learn to respect my elders and peers. So I thank Mr. Young for teaching so much about rules and school.”
Hemingway kindergarten teacher Diane Parker and student Maren Feltman. Maren’s mother Leslie Feltman wrote: “Mrs. Parker is a kind and caring teacher who gives so much to these children. She is calm, patient and so supportive, which has built a strong foundation for these children to learn in. She comes up with the most creative ideas for fun projects, which our daughter is always so thrilled to tell us about. She has exposed these kids to so many different things through field trips, show and tell and her own experiences. Mrs. Parker fosters each child’s unique learning style with encouragement and praise. She has given this class the gift of building each child’s self esteem. What a tremendous platform to build the educational experience on.”
Hemingway second-grade teacher Kim Trammel and student Nyle Prabowo. Nyle wrote: Ms. Trammell is a very nice and fun teacher. She lets us do follow direction games, activity and fun facts about animals. Sometimes she lets us do trivia questions and grade some people’s writing on the overhead when it’s writers’ workshop. She lets us use computer games and lets us read and do math and play games when we’re done with our six centers. We do projects about deserts, the arctic and Antarctica and the ocean. We do animal projects and dioramas. We do multiplication and sometimes we do division and we talk about prime numbers and sometimes algebra. I love my teacher.”
Woodside kindergarten teacher Karen Bliss and student Sarah Feltman. Sarah’s mother Leslie Feltman wrote: “How do you thank a teacher who makes learning for my daughter so much fun? She starts with an infectious smile and happy good morning to students. She packs in so much learning in such a fun way it is amazing to watch. My daughter comes home singing all sorts of cute educational songs, even the alphabet backwards. Mrs. Bliss treats the kids with care and respect and they in return treat each other the same way. I can’t think of a better role model for our children. Thank you Mrs. Bliss.”

Woodside first-grade teacher Jill Lecrone and student Emma Lago. Emma wrote: “I love my teacher Mrs. Lecrone! She is so nice. And, she is good at teaching me stuff like 1 + 1 = 2, but she sometimes makes me pull a card. I love it when we get leader of the pack. And I love it when she smiles. The end. No, not the end, just the beginning. About the author, Emma: I like to sing songs and keep my house clean. And, I’m 7 years old.”
