Warm Springs is a ‘gem’

Time marches on and change happens, whether through evolution, deterioration or creation. The Warm Springs Ranch Resort developers are proposing a wonderful metamorphosis—to create a gem from a neglected parcel. The beauty of the project, however, is in the community involvement ... the collective wisdom. And through the process of community participation, the ranch will be better for the residents in Warm Springs and the community as a whole.

The critics have good reason to interrogate, analyze and be skeptical, and I appreciate their perspective because it differs from mine. It's not in my nature to question as deeply as the critics do. I see very clearly the need for the project, the positive economic impact, the chance to reverse the declining trend in local tourism. I see how attractive a "green" resort could become a leading edge destination and the harbinger of more green developments throughout Ketchum. However, I've learned the value of thorough analysis and respect the critics for their contribution in pushing the process towards a better result.

Ketchum needs the Warm Springs Ranch Resort project. The Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council must approve it. In doing so, they should also give credit to the time taken through the public process. It is positive proof that the critics have helped to make a better project. The project is a gem that will shine more brilliantly and be received more warmly and gratefully as a happy consequence of the community's collective wisdom.
