Clark L. Gerhardt Sr.


Clark L. Gerhardt Sr., age 94, died on Saturday, May 31, 2008, at his home in Hailey, Idaho.

He was born Aug. 21, 1913, in Somerset, Penn., the child of Freeman and Clara Gerhardt. Clark grew up in Somerset on the family farm and graduated from Somerset High School. In 1933, Clark then joined the Army Air Corps and flew mail for the new U.S. Postal Service. He graduated from Dallas Airmotive as an aircraft engine mechanic. Clark worked in the Civil Service for the U.S. Navy Department in aircraft and missile system development and procurement for 35 years.

Clark volunteered at the San Diego Air and Space Museum restoring old aircraft engines for display. Clark lived in San Diego, Calif., until 2004 when he moved to Hailey to be close to his son and family.

Clark was a loving husband and father. Along with aircraft restoration, he truly enjoyed pheasant hunting and playing tennis.

Survivors include his son Clark (Maria) Gerhardt Jr. and grandsons Miguel and Nicolas, all of Hailey.
