July 4 bike race set in Hailey

Road and Dirt and the Blaine County Recreation District will host a Fourth of July Criterium following the Independence Day Parade in Hailey. Cyclists of all ages, both professional and non-professional, will compete on a spectator-friendly, four-corner course through the streets of downtown Hailey.

Sponsors and volunteers are needed for the races, which will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a mass-start immediately following the parade. Registration begins at noon in front of KB's Burritos and Wise Guy Pizza at 121 Main St. A current U.S. Cycling Federation license must be presented at registration (a one-day or annual USCF license can be purchased at registration).

Power Engineers acquires firm

Power Engineers, a global engineering and consulting firm specializing in energy facilities and communications projects, with offices in Hailey, has acquired Boise-based visualization technology firm Visual Genesis. The acquisition will provide for photo simulations and interactive videos of proposed roads, buildings, and power transmission and generation facilities, including 3-D modeling and animation for public outreach.

Visual Genesis staff will join Idaho Power at the Boise offices, providing support for resource management plans, transportation plannning, environmental assessments, visual analyses and long-range planning.

Seal coating set for bike path

Seal coating is scheduled for Monday, June 9, through Friday, June 13, on the Wood River Trail from the north end of Buttercup Road to the north side of Fox Acres Drive in Hailey.

The Blaine County Recreation District reported that the section of trail will be closed during seal coating but that a detour route will be available. However, it may not be suitable for road bikes, rollerblades, bike trailers or for nighttime travel.

Reckless no more

The Reckless Kelly concert on July 4—presented by the Sun Valley/Ketchum Chamber & Visitors Bureau and the city of Ketchum—is officially sold out. The concert, held as part of the Sun Valley/Ketchum Chamber's Fourth on Fourth celebration, has a capacity of 2,500 people and filled-up within a week of making the free tickets available.

Admittance to the show is still available through volunteer and sponsorship opportunities. Williams Street closed

Williams Street in western Ketchum is scheduled to be closed from June 2 through June 30 for improvements.

The closure will be along Williams Street from Wood River Drive to Rember Street. For alternate routes, detour to Bird or Wood River drives.

Open house at new Scott building

To celebrate an effort to create affordable housing in Ketchum, an open house will be held at the new Scott/Northwood Building, located at 105 Lindsay Circle in the city's light-industrial area, on Thursday, June 5, from 4-7 p.m.

This event will provide an opportunity for members of the public to view the 15 newly constructed affordable housing units, 13 of which will be offered to qualified members of the local workforce with the remaining two being sold to local businesses to provide housing for their qualified employees.

Light food and beverages will be provided.

Galena Lodge opens for summer

Galena Lodge will hold its annual Galena and the Trails Summer Benefit and Barbecue on Saturday, June 14, to celebrate the opening of Galena Lodge's summer season. Galena Lodge is located 23 miles north of Ketchum on Highway 75. The benefit and barbecue will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 with a no host bar.

In addition, Galena Lodge will have a Father's Day Brunch Buffet on Sunday, June 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The lodge will serve a brunch buffet with live music by Bruce Innes. The brunch is $20.50 for adults and $12.50 for ages 4 to 12. Reservations are not required. For details, call 788-2117.

Wheelchair Mission to roll into town

The Mobility in Motion Tour will bring to Ketchum the Free Wheelchair Mission for two presentations. On Saturday, June 21, at 6 p.m., Laurie Schoendorfer, the wife of the founder of Free Wheelchair Mission, and valley resident Renee Hage will speak about the Free Wheelchair Mission at a community event at the Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Sun Valley. On Sunday, June 22, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., volunteers will be at the Presbyterian Church of the Big Wood, followed by a community event featuring the New Hearts Worship Band at 2 p.m.

The organization has distributed more than 315,000 wheelchairs to people with disabilities in more than 75 developing countries around the world.
