The Ketchum-based Team Mud Honey with Muffy Ritz, Karoline Droege, India Wysong and Michelle Sluder competed in the 24 Hours Round the Clock mountain bike race at Spokane, Wash. May 24-25.

Entered in the competitive four-person Open division over Memorial Day weekend, the Mud Honeys beat all but four of the men's teams. The local squad placed fifth of 19 teams.

Team Mud Honey captain Muffy Ritz said, "This race is really a fun one and it's not so hard that you dread every lap.

"You actually look forward to racing around the course especially at night when your senses are heightened. It was fun to see every kind of rider out there racing—young to old, fit to not fit, and professional to amateur. Even costumes were worn!"

The race ran for 24 hours, from noon Saturday until noon Sunday. Each rider rode a 15-mile lap then tagged off to the next team rider. The Mud Honeys completed 22 laps throughout the 24-hour window, or five laps apiece and then some.

Also competing was solo rider Greg Martin. He rode 19 laps, only getting off his bike to change clothes and things like that but never sleeping or taking a long break. Martin placed second, only 10 minutes behind race leader Nelson Snyder.

Competing in the two-person team race were Ketchum's Chris O'Donnell and John Droege. They did 16 laps.
