A former sex-crime suspect who skipped sentencing last month was back in the Blaine County Jail on Tuesday after being returned to custody last Friday by a bail bondsman.

Uriah Zamir Crain, a 19-year-old Hailey man, was arraigned Monday afternoon in Blaine County 5th District Court on a misdemeanor charge of failure to appear. His bond was raised from $25,000 to $75,000.

Judge Robert J. Elgee issued an arrest warrant for Crain on May 7 after the defendant failed to appear for sentencing on May 5. Crain had reportedly fled to Las Vegas.

Crain pleaded guilty in February to felony injury to a child and misdemeanor battery. He was originally charged in a Blaine County grand jury indictment with lewd conduct with a minor child under 16 for an alleged sexual assault on a 13-year-old girl on May 1, 2007, in the women's restroom at Alturas Plaza in downtown Hailey. Crain allegedly assaulted the girl after viewing cell phone images of the girl stripping and dancing in the nude.

The guilty pleas were in accord with a plea agreement with the Blaine County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, which will recommend that Crain be sentenced to 10 years in prison, with three of them to be served before he is eligible for parole.

Records at the Blaine County Sheriff's Office state that Crain was returned to custody at 3 p.m. Friday, May 30, by a bondsman from Fast Bail Bond Inc., a Wendell company that stood to forfeit $25,000 if Crain was not apprehended.

Details of Crain's apprehension were not immediately available.

Sentencing is now scheduled for 9 a.m. on June 23.
