I was the first to build a house on Stirrup Lane and have lived at 123 Stirrup Lane since 1976. I was assured at that time that the zoning of the surrounding property would remain "Recreational Use" (RU) in perpetuity. I strongly object to the proposed rezone of this portion of Block 11, Bigwood Planned Unit Development subdivision from Recreation Use and Avalanche zoning to any other status.
I am concerned that the density of the proposed 19 units on 4.14 acres will severely and detrimentally impact the integrity of the adjoining neighborhood. Is it possible to get enough parking, snow storage, and buffering landscaping to protect the already existing residences, golf course and hotel? Furthermore, I am concerned that there are many community housing units standing vacant at the present time in Ketchum and throughout the county for lack of qualified and interested buyers. Why are you considering building more?
In the 1970s and 1980s, the Ketchum citizenry went to great effort to provide land to be dedicated for recreational purposes, the bike path, pocket parks, etc. The current thought of encroaching on these open-space amenities is unacceptable; it is exactly these recreational amenities which make this a more desirable place to live and affects the value of my property. Again, I strongly object to allowing any development on this dedicated piece of recreational property.
Do you really want to take every square inch of this town and make it as unattractive as you can?
