Claim your unclaimed money

Nearly $2 million in unclaimed funds is set to go into the state's coffers come July 1.

"And some of that money could be yours," the Idaho State Tax Commission announced last week in a news release.

The commission, which holds unclaimed funds in Idaho, advised that the state takes ownership of property that remains unclaimed for 10 years or longer. It currently is holding some $48 million in unclaimed funds.

Unclaimed funds can be in the form of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, bank accounts, uncashed payroll checks, utility deposits, traveler's checks, or contents from deposit boxes.

An "unclaimed property list" can be found at the Tax Commission Web site at tax.idaho.gov.

"If your name is on the list, fill out a form as soon as possible," advised Tax Commission spokesman Cecil Torres Jr.

There is no charge for the service. Questions can be directed to the Tax Commission's Unclaimed Property Program at 334-7623 or (800) 972-7660, ext. 7623.

Grants available for R&D

The Idaho Department of Commerce has small grants available to help Idaho research-and-development technology companies obtain even larger grants through the federal Small Business Innovation Research program.

The Department of Commerce announced last month that "dozens" of $3,000 grants are available. Total program funding of $150,000 is available through a one-time appropriation from the Idaho Legislature.

Eligibility information is available at www.technology.idaho.gov/federal-funding. Applications forms can be completed online.

Additional information is available at (208) 334-2470, at either extension 2118 or 2128.

The event was a professionally attended blind tasting. It is the Northwest's largest competition with 1,400 entries. The category in which the cuvée won was best red Bordeaux blend under $30.

The wine will be released during the Food and Wine Festival, from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Frenchman's Gulch Winery, 360 Ninth Street East, off Warm Springs Road in Ketchum.

Chamber offers service training

The peak summer tourist season is just around the corner, and in order to prepare, the Sun Valley/Ketchum Chamber & Visitor's Bureau will offer a customer service training session for local businesses' frontline employees to help effectively serve visitors this summer. The class will be held Monday, June 16, with a morning session from 9 a.m. to noon, and an afternoon session from 2 to 5 p.m. Classes will be held at the Wood River YMCA in Ketchum.

The main focus of the class will be to educate employees on valuable customer-service techniques. The class will also help employees answer customer questions about the area, learn about local activities and where to find information, and learn a bit about the history of the Wood River Valley.

To reserve a spot, contact Gina Bennett at the Visitor Center by June 12 at 725-2108, or visitorservices@visitsunvalley.com.
