Murphy’s a hypocrite

You have to love Pat Murphy. Last week he pleaded for decency in politics. In that column he called those he disagrees with shameless, kidnappers, desecraters of the Constitution, trashers of the environment, corrupters of patriotism, liars about terrorism, liars about their faith, of corrupt character, having vengeful venality, vile tempered, liars for political gain, starting wars for national machismo, shredders of civil liberty and ugly partisanship, among other niceties.

This man wants decency and then proceeds to use the worst diatribes of ad hominem half-truths I have read in recent or prolonged memory.

Mr. Murphy wants decency in politics and wouldn't recognize a rational argument if it bit him. If you disagree with someone, politician or private individual, it is commonly accepted that you give reasons. All I have ever seen form Mr. Murphy is invective.

I truly believe that if we are going to have decency in political discourse, it will happen when Mr. Murphy and others of his ilk remain silent.
