Jerome track meet a tuneup for regionals

Wolverines make headway

Wood River High School track and field athletes showed progress with a slew of placings and personal-best times during Friday's eight-school Jerome Invitational track and field meet on the Tiger oval.

It was a windy day, much like the rest of the spring in the Magic Valley. But it was a good test with the state-qualifying Great Basin Conference regional meet coming May 14-15 to the same Jerome track.

Three Wolverine boys' relays ended up with places.

In third place at 3:59.2 was the medley squad of Dale McLaughlin, Tom Waters, Pedro Morales and Andrew Orr. The 4x400-meter relay team of McLaughlin, Greg LeBlanc, Morales and Orr finished fourth in 3:55.00.

Placing sixth in 51.8 seconds was the 4x100m relay with Jake Miczulski, Evan Puluti, Tyler Condon and Brandon Condon.

Out of 19 Wood River boys in the tough field at Jerome, there were nine individual placings ranging from fifth to seventh.

Fifth places—Rob Paris triple jump (39-8); Pedro Morales 800m (2:11) and 1600m (4:53).

Sixth places—Tyler Stocks shotput (42-10) and discus (PR 129-5); Dale McLaughlin pole vault (11-0); and Chase Caulkins 3200m (10:38).

Seventh places—Chase Caulkins 1600m (4:55) and Bo Brown pole vault (11-0).

Also competing for Wood River were Josh Arters, John Bartoletta, Kyson Chin, Sam Colesworthy, Zeb Glenn, James Paris, Jed Prall, Colton Seely, William Spiller and Anthony Williamson.

Leading the six Wolverine girls at Jerome was freshman Tanner Dredge with a second-place time of 17.3 seconds in the 100-meter high hurdles. Dredge was the only four-event Hailey girls' entrant last Friday.

Dredge also placed fourth in 300m intermediate hurdles (53.21). Grace Lagodich, a sophomore, was fifth in 300m hurdles (53.9), sixth in 100m hurdles (17.8) and sixth with a personal best 13-5 long jump.

Jade Glenn had a PR 11-11 in the long jump and also ran the 800m (3:16) and 1600m (7:16). Other girls were Emily Matthews (14.6 100m, 33.1 200m); Brooke Bowers (3:03 800m, 6:38 1600m and 14:43 3200m); and Ashton Lupton (3:26 800m, 7:52 1600m, 17:40 3200m).
