Sun Valley Figure Skating Club show off their school spirit for “Ice Rink Musical: School Daze,” with Caroline Hold as the flamingo, Marcella Fisher is the giraffe, Caitlin Sholtis is the basketball player, Claire Fisher is the cheerleader and the pirate girls from left to right are Alex Stuessi, Blair Baker, Emma Stuessi and Blake LeTourneau and Dora the Explorer.

The Sun Valley Figure Skating Club turns the last day of school into a skating journey when it performs its spring show, "Ice Rink Musical: School Daze," at the Sun Valley indoor ice rink on Saturday, May 3. Shows will take place at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

"School Daze" presents the story of an unusual day at high school. Students arrive for the last day of school to discover the subjects of their classes have come to life. Pirates are dueling in geography class and endangered animals dance and roar in the biology classroom. History class becomes ancient Egypt and drama is really drama. Cheerleaders, baseball players and basketball players rock through PE class until the day ends with senior prom, graduation, summer vacation and the appearance by cartoon characters Dora the Explorer and Diego, of all things.

Over 60 skaters are taking part in the ice performance, ranging in age from 3 to 83 under the direction of Sun Valley's Gia Guddat, an international performing professional, innovative choreographer and director. Guddat as well as several other Wood River Valley ice skating professionals will be skating.

In addition there will be appearances by Olympic ice dancer Andrzej Dostatni and former national and international medallists Dawn Peterson and Elena Khalyavina. Some of the club's most talented senior ranking soloists, including United States Figure Skating Association gold medallists Kayla Carrigan, Ali Butler and Julianna Lamb will give solo performances. United States Figure Skating Association preliminary and rising stars Nicole Pratt, Julia Broderick and Alexandra Harten will also perform.

Expect over an hour of fast-paced skating, beautiful choreography, great sets and spectacular costumes by Holly Wheeler.

Tickets are $5 for general admission, $10 for the balcony and $50 for reserved on-ice seating with refreshments. Tickets can be purchased at Chapter One Bookstore in Ketchum or Tater Tots in Hailey. For more information, call 622-8020 or visit sunvalleyfsc.com.
