The Blaine County Senior Center in Hailey will likely get a new look this summer. A design application presented Thursday by architect Jolyon Sawrey to the Hailey hearing examiner included a 2,700-square-foot addition for playing bridge, ping pong and billiards.

The application was approved by the hearing examiner on Thursday and will go to the City Council for final deliberations within the next 45 days. It also calls for a rezoning of the senior center's property to include a wide range of business and residential uses, and medical facilities.

"We are basically going to dress up the building," said Sawrey, whose design calls for gabled elements, river rock features and new paint.

"The kitchen and dining areas will be doubled in size," Sawrey said. "We also have plans to install an old-fashioned, soda-jerk style ice cream and popcorn bar."

Hailey planner Mariel Platt said she expects the city to accept the application based on a few cosmetic and landscaping design changes.

The senior center, located at 321 Third Avenue, provides a wide variety of services to Blaine County senior citizens.
