Sweep launches Wolverines into tougher tests

WRHS tennis rolls past Tigers 10-2, 11-1

Tuning up for more competitive meets coming up in the next week, the Wood River High School tennis team took care of the Jerome Tigers 10-2 and 11-1 Tuesday in a pair of Great Basin Conference West dual meets played in Hailey.

Wood River won 11 of the 12 singles matches in the pro-set format, and also swept boys' and girls' doubles. One of the dual meets against Jerome was a make-up from earlier in the spring—making Tuesday's contests a doubleheader.

Hailey singles players #1 Carlos Neme, #1 Anna Chrysikopoulos and #3 Allison Rust were two-time winners. Also winning twice over Jerome were doubles teams Scott and Morgan Pike, Brendan Freund and William Eagan, Tessa Barrow and Kami Doan, and Ellen Davis and Jessica Hamilton.

Wood River travels to the prestigious Capital Invitational today, Friday, in Boise and visits The Community School next Tuesday. Results from the Jerome matches:

WRHS 10, Jerome 2

Boys' singles: #1—Carlos Neme (WR) 8-4 over Michael Pittman (J). #2—R.J. Forgeon (WR) 8-0 over Travyn Mapes (J). #3—Jason Barbee (WR) 8-1 over Jae Hai Lim (J).

Girls' singles: #1—Anna Chrysikopoulos (WR) 8-0 over Sam Sobotka (J). #2—Brianna Gilbert (J) 8-3 over Jordan Hendricks (WR). #3—Allison Rust (WR) 8-2 over Candice Siebold (J).

Boys' doubles: #1—Scott Pike and Morgan Pike (WR) 8-1 over Jordan Meservy and Chase Capps (J). #2—Brendan Freund and William Eagan (WR) 8-0 over Aaron Ross and Kim Young (J).

Girls' doubles: #1—Tessa Barrow and Kami Doan (WR) 8-0 over Rachel Pickett and Megan Wayment (J). #2—Jessica Hamilton and Ellen Davis (WR) 8-6 over Cassie Novis and Benz Prairuangkit (J).

Mixed doubles: #1—Danny Lasike and Melissa Fairbrother (J) 8-2 over Karl Fostvedt and Ainsley Gourlay (WR). #2—Ben Leopold and Tanya Greenwood (WR) 8-0 over Josiah Higley and Katherine Halper (J).

WRHS 11, Jerome 1

Boys' singles: #1—Carlos Neme (WR) 8-4 over Michael Pittman (J). #2—Andrew Pfeiffer (WR) 9-7 over Travyn Mapes (J). #3—Jordan Niedrich (WR) 8-3 over Jae Hai Lim (J).

Girls' singles: #1—Anna Chrysikopoulos (WR) 8-1 over Brianna Gilbert (J). #2—Maya Diem (WR) 8-1 over Sam Sobotka (J). #3—Allison Rust (WR) 8-2 over Candice Siebold (J).
