Dorothy Patterson

Dorothy G. Patterson, 89, passed away peacefully during the early-morning hours of April 7, 2008, at Bridgeview Estates in Twin Falls.

She was born to Fern and Frank Gladden on July 12, 1918, in Cecil, Pa. Her family donated the property where the First United Presbyterian Church was built in MacDonald, Pa., and where Dorothy was baptized in February 1919. After graduating from High School, she married Melvin Smith and while living in Erie, Pa., had one daughter, Barbara Ann. She later moved to Reno, Nev., where she married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Patterson. In November, they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Dorothy worked in clothing retail and as a receptionist and telephone operator in Reno until she retired and moved with Bob to Bellevue, Idaho, in 1980. For many years they enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and summers in Bellevue. Bingo, pinochle and crafts kept her busy, and she especially loved sitting on the porch in the summer evening hours watching the hummingbirds. She was also very fond of ladybugs and had accumulated many ladybug art pieces.

She is survived and loved by her husband, Bob; daughter, Barbara Olson of Greensboro, N.C.; grandson, James Olson of McLeansville, N.C., and his wife, Jeanne, and their son, Ian; sisters-in-law, Jewel Patterson of Bellevue and Bonnie Svare of Sparks, Nev.; nieces, Kathleen Swanson and Barb Patterson, both of Bellevue; and nephews, Jack Bonewell of Richland, Wash., and Adam Willett of Reno, Nev.; and many friends and neighbors who will miss her smile and easygoing, sweet nature. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Richard Gladden; her brother-in-law, Bill Patterson; and sister-in-law, Mary Bonewell.

A graveside ceremony will be held at the Bellevue Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Wood River Chapel in Hailey.
