Hit and run leads to charges

A Hailey man faces a plethora of misdemeanor charges for allegedly crashing into a parked vehicle last week on Aspen Drive in west Hailey and leaving the scene of the accident.

Hailey police Lt. Steve England identified the man as 32-year-old Chad Ramsey. England said Ramsey was issued citations alleging leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, failure to purchase insurance and driving with a suspended license.

The accident occurred just before 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, when Ramsey allegedly crashed his 1980 Chevrolet pickup into a 2005 GMC parked in the driveway at 421 Aspen Dr. England said Ramsey's disabled vehicle was found a few blocks from the crash scene, which led to his identification as the alleged driver.

England said the parked vehicle was likely totaled. Investigators estimated that the Chevrolet pickup was traveling at least 50 miles per hour when it jumped a snow bank and crashed into the GMC.

England said Ramsey was not arrested because he later called police and cooperated with the investigation.
