Local nonprofit sued for breach of contract

More than four months after stepping down as executive director of the Wood River Economic Partnership, Jima Rice has filed a suit seeking allegedly unpaid wages against the nonprofit organization she founded in March 2007.

The Wood River Economic Partnership is an advocate for government policies and planning helpful to local business.

Rice, who has since gone on to create Jigsaw, a nonprofit designed to support entrepreneurs, filed her suit April 8. She was reluctant to discuss it in detail, but said it was the result of unpaid wages that had been agreed upon in her contract with the organization's board.

While Rice didn't give the damages she is seeking, the lawsuit states that an amount of more than $10,000 will be proven at trial.

In December, Rice stated in a press release that she was asked to resign by the board of directors due to budget issues resulting from difficulties in recruiting members and the ensuing inability to pay her salary.

Steve Mills, one of the organization's board members, said he had yet to be informed of the lawsuit, but added that the organization has a board meeting scheduled for today, and the issue will likely be discussed.
