Hailey police arrested a man Monday afternoon on suspicion of aggravated battery for allegedly beating another man in the head with brass knuckles earlier this month in downtown Hailey.

Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter said 27-year-old Gildardo Salinas-Saliva was arrested at his home in Hailey on a warrant that also accuses him of misdemeanor child endangerment. The police chief said Salinas-Saliva was released from the Blaine County Jail later Monday after posting $10,000 bond.

It was not clear Tuesday afternoon when Salinas-Saliva would be formally charged in Blaine County Magistrate Court.

Police are trying to identify a second suspect in the April 1 beating of 27-year-old Jason Quintana in front of Blockbuster Video on Main Street. Police corrected an earlier statement and said Quintana was not an employee of the business but was standing near the front door when the attack occurred.

Hailey police Lt. Steve England said two sets of brass knuckles were used. Quintana was transported to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center where he was treated for multiple head injuries and released later that day.

"The victim has talked and did help us with an identification of the suspect," said England, adding that Quintana told investigators that he did not know the second assailant.

England said the altercation was "allegedly over a long dispute of a girl issue."

He said the child endangerment charge was included in the warrant because Quintana was holding his girlfriend's 1-year-old child in his arms when the attack occurred.
