Wood River tennis team tangles with Twin Falls

The Wood River tennis team finally got a chance to enjoy the great outdoors at home Tuesday, playing host to Twin Falls in non-conference meet in Hailey.

"The six courts cooperated and the snow didn't melt while we were playing," coach Vicki Johnston said. "It was really nice to be outside and we had a lot of fun playing Twin. They are nice kids."

The Bruins emerged with an 8-4 victory, capitalizing on wins in five of the six singles' matches. Anna Chrysikopoulos was the sole Wolverine to win in the category, sweeping her opponent 6-0, 6-0 in #1 girls' singles.

Back together again after Scott's trip to Colorado for USASA Nationals, the Pike brothers, Scott and Morgan, claimed #1 boys' doubles, 6-3, 6-2. Tessa Barrow and Kami Doan prevailed in #1 girls' doubles, pulling out a third-set tiebreaker to win 2-6, 6-1, 7-5. The #2 mixed doubles pair of Ben Leopold and Jordan Hendricks pulled off the same feat, winning their match in a 7-5 tiebreaker.

Wood River travels to Idaho Falls today to participate for the first time in the Eastern Idaho Invitational. The Wolverines host Minico Tuesday.
