It's being called "A Corker Aussie Meet" on the official Website, "corker" being Aussie slang for someone or something astonishing or excellent.

That's the XII Fine World Masters Swimming Championships April 18-24 at Perth, Australia. And the Wood River Valley is sending two swimmers to the big meet.

Zenergy Masters Swim Program athletes Jeff Jones and Heidi Watanabe are leaving this weekend for Australia and their first-ever world meet.

Their coach for the past year has been Karen Morrison.

Jones, 45, plans to compete in the 50-meter butterfly along with 50m, 100m and 200m free events at Perch.

Watanabe will compete in four events as well, all freestyle races, at distances of 50m, 100m, 200m and 800m.

Jones, Watanabe and Michael Harrison competed April 4-6 at Portland, Ore. in the Oregon State Masters Swimming Championships held at the 12th & Hills Aquatic Center.

Winning the Men's 45-49 50m freestyle event in 27.9 seconds at Portland was Jones, who was also fifth in the 200m free race.

Competing in the Women's 45-49 class, Watanabe was runner up in the 400m and 800m freestyle races, 4th in the 200m free and 5th in the 50m free.

Harrison swam to 2nd and 3rd in the 50m breast and 100m back.
