News Briefs

Explore symbolism of Passover

Rabbi Barney Brickner of the Wood River Jewish Community and the Rev. Ken Brannon of St. Thomas Episcopal Church will explore the symbolism and meaning of Passover, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, April 12.

The lecture at St. Thomas Episcopal will concern the similarities and differences in how the Jewish and Christian communities approach this festival. Although the evening will feature a tasting of festival foods, it will not be an actual Seder, nor will dinner be served.

The event is free, but donations are gratefully accepted and will be directed to the Ketchum-Sun Valley Ministers Association Fund. This fund provides critical assistance to valley residents, regardless of faith or religious background.

To RSVP, call St. Thomas Church at 726-5349 and indicate how many will attend. Everyone is welcome.

Advocates seek mentors

The Hailey-based Advocates for the Survivors of Domestic Violence will conduct a mentor training class with Youth Program Coordinator Darrel Harris from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Community Campus Hub Room in Hailey.

The class is free and open to any adult in the Wood River Valley who would like to work with youths who have either experienced or witnessed domestic violence.

The Advocates have only a handful of mentor volunteers currently doing volunteer work as mentors with these special-needs kids. The organization is in need of more adults to be involved.

For more information, call Harris at 788-4191.

See 'Bachelor' in Sun Valley

ABC's top-rated reality show, "The Bachelor," will air a one-hour episode on Monday, April 14, that was shot entirely in and around Sun Valley and Ketchum.

The show visited Sun Valley and Ketchum in early January and filmed scenes and activities at various locations including the Sun Valley ice rink, Zenergy, Trail Creek Cabin, Dollar Mountain, and a private home donated for the show by Candace and Barry Peterson of Ketchum.

The Sun Valley/Ketchum Chamber & Visitors Bureau originally contacted the show several years ago about filming in the area and was contacted by ABC this past December as part of their search for a romantic winter getaway for a segment.

The episode will air on ABC at 8 p.m. MST.
