Victim not clear on crime details

The Hailey Police Department is trying to figure out who stabbed a Valley View Apartments resident early Sunday morning.

The stabbing allegedly occurred in the Second Avenue area of east Hailey sometime around midnight, but Police Chief Jeff Gunter said the case is complicated because the victim hasn't provided clear details of the alleged crime.

"It appears he's confused about the event," Gunter said. "He said it happened while he was walking down the street."

Gunter identified the man as 33-year-old Jamie W. Smith. Police learned of the stabbing at 12:28 a.m.

"He got stabbed and walked home and his roommates called police," Gunter said. "We're trying to pin down where it happened and have checked several locations and have so far been unable to locate a crime scene."

Gunter said police have no suspects but "we're following up on a couple of leads that will hopefully lead that way."

The police chief said Smith was stabbed in the chest with a "two-inch blade" most likely from a pocketknife. He was taken to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center where he was treated and released later that morning.
