Spring rejuvenation

By MOLLY BROWN

Our reality directly reflects our levels of consciousness. An empowering way to take responsibility for our environment is by being conscious of what we put into our bodies on the level of nutrition. It relates to our minds on the level of emotions, our environment and the people we surround ourselves with, and our spirit as it relates to our lives and interactions with others. This can be thought of as our total nutrition for body, mind and spirit.

A huge part of food preparation is the intent that we put into the food. When food is prepared with loving intentions and integrity, it imparts a sense of vibrancy and well being, in which the food acts as a conductor to raise energy to a higher level, which is its purpose. So often people are out of balance with food and use it to repress emotions; it should be the opposite, a cause for celebration. As the earth begins to open and warm for the spring and summer, our bodies begin to open as well.

As we enter into the spring, people’s focus naturally turns to cleansing their bodies, minds and spirit for the longer days of light and warmth. Cleansing or fasting in a supported, guided environment can often produce incredible results for chronic illnesses and diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol. In his new book, “There is a Cure for Diabetes,” Dr. Gabriel Cousens gives significant data and consistent, often amazing results with regulating blood sugar and taking Type II diabetics off their insulin in a matter of days on green juice fasting and live foods. Cleansing the colon and decreasing the toxicity in the bowel often produce dramatic results with everything from asthma and allergies to chronic pain and inflammation. I really only recommend fasting on retreat, away from home and work, with experienced and appropriate guidance.

As the days warm and lengthen, I think it’s great to take even one day out of the week and upgrade the diet to incorporate more vibrant live foods, adding fiber and living water in the form of whole foods to daily meals. Adding fiber and mineral-rich foods can include one day of live foods, adding green juices made with cucumber, celery, lemon, ginger and other leafy greens to hydrate and mineralize the body. If you are a heavy coffee drinker, replace it with a hot black tea, green tea or mate. Refrain from alcohol and drink sparkling mineral water with a splash of fruit juice at night. Use a zeolite supplement such as Waiora’s Natural Cellular Defense to pull heavy metals and toxins out of the system. Drink extra water to hydrate the body and flush out toxins. Slow and steady changes can produce lasting results and feelings of well-being.

The soul is a microcosm of the world. It’s no secret that the environment is radically out of balance. It takes about five minutes of watching TV and all the ads for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleeping pills and constant pushing of junk food marketed to children to realize that our nutrition and our bodies are radically out of balance as well. The solution lies in demanding higher quality, organic food from healthy mineralized topsoil and supporting local agriculture. As our earth rebalances, our bodies and minds will follow.

I have found that a clean, nourishing diet, free from white sugar, white flour, caffeine, alcohol, dairy, and meat leads to a calm and centered mind. If we are present and centered in each moment of life, the opportunities to create positive situations are endless.

RECIPE:
Vibrant macadamia nut paté:
This recipe can be used like hummus and is delicious on sandwiches, to dip vegetables in, or in a nori roll with avocado, carrot and cucumber.
Mix all ingredients together in a Cuisinart:
1 cup raw macadamia nuts
1/2-cup raw sunflower seeds
3-tbsp. fresh squeezed lemon juice
1-tsp. sun-dried sea salt (not iodized table salt)
1/2 – 1-cup water, more for a lighter consistency, less for a denser consistency.

Peppo runs Whole Person Nutrition in Ketchum, in which she works with chronic illness and injuries. She is currently in Arizona on her annual spiritual, green juice fast with Dr. Gabriel Cousens. She will open a live food café in Ketchum in June.
