Results have been announced from last week's Western Region J4 (ages 11-12) Festival, part of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association's Western Region J3 Junior Olympics (ages 13-14) at Boise's Bogus Basin.
There were 170 elite J3s competing from the five divisions making up Western Region USSA at the three-day series. Divisions are Intermountain, Alaska, Far West (Squaw Valley), Northern (Montana) and Pacific Northwest (Seattle area).
In addition, there were 15 boys and 15 elite girls in the J4 Festival. Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation second-year J4s Kipling Weisel and K.J. Savaria were two of the six Intermountain Division entrants.
In Friday's super giant slalom on Paradise, Savaria placed seventh, 1.97 seconds back, and Weisel DNFd. But it was a good weekend for both—Weisel making the podium twice and Savaria finishing each race.
Weisel placed third for the bronze in Saturday's boys' giant slalom on Ridge/Bowl and Savaria was fourth Sunday on Sourdough. Weisel earned second place 1.90 seconds behind Far West's Hughston Norton, and Savaria ended up ninth.
