A 35-year-old Hailey man has been charged with felony aggravated assault for allegedly threatening to stab his roommate with a kitchen knife early Monday morning.

"The victim said the man had tried to stab him," said Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter.

Whether the suspect attempted to stab his roommate or only made a threat was unclear, but Gunter said that either way the alleged action constituted a crime.

"Aggravated assault is the threat with the ability to carry out the threat," the police chief said.

Gunter identified the suspect as Kyaw Naing, who was arraigned on the charge Monday in Blaine County Magistrate Court. Naing was released from the Blaine County Jail later Monday after posting $10,000 bond.

The altercation allegedly occurred in Building L at the Balmoral apartments in the Woodside area of Hailey. Police were called to the apartment at 12:50 a.m. on a report of "a man with a knife threatening to stab another man."

Upon arrival, police ascertained that Naing and the 26-year-old alleged victim were, or had been, roommates but were in the middle of a falling out because of a "changed lock."
