The closing date for skiing on Bald Mountain is tentatively set for Sunday, April 13.
"It's possible we'll stay open another week, but that can't be determined yet," Sun Valley Co. spokesman Jack Sibbach said. "It depends on the weather and demand."
Lift operations will be somewhat reduced by the end of this weekend. Sunday, March 23, will be the last day of service for the Exhibition and Sunnyside lifts on Baldy and for Half Dollar lift on Dollar Mountain. The Roundhouse and Lookout restaurants will also close Sunday, though the bathrooms at Lookout will remain open.
"Hopefully we can keep as much terrain open as possible," Sibbach said. "It has to be (continually) re-evaluated."
With high temperatures in the mid-30s to low-40s predicted for the weekend and a chance of snow on Friday night, it looks as if there will be good spring skiing on Bald Mountain.
According to Sun Valley Co, there is currently 86 inches of snow, including both natural and man-made, at the top of Bald Mountain.
While snow on the south-facing slopes has continued to thin, cold nighttime weather and recent snow flurries have maintained a solid snowpack on the north-facing slopes.
At the beginning of April last year, there was a mere 57 inches at the summit. That winter's meager snowfall led the mountain to close almost a week earlier than scheduled for this spring.
