Grumpy?s (12-0-2) finishes the deal 6-2

Gund Cup winner for 2008

Goalie David Stone couldn't make it for his undefeated Grumpy's/Sun Valley Auto Club trip Thursday night during the championship game of this year's Gund Cup Senior Hockey League tournament.

So Bobby Farrelly filled in as the goalie of top-seeded Grumpy's and did his job behind a strong defense. Grumpy's (12-0-2) shut down two-time defending Gund Cup champion Yoga College (6-6-2) in the third period and captured a 6-2 victory.

Charles Friedman ended up with four goals for Grumpy's, but Yoga gave the champions all they could handle. Trailing 3-2, Yoga had some momentum going into the third period. Yoga just couldn't generate many shots. And the Yoga defense had a tough time matching the speed of Grumpy's first forward line.

Friedman was the scoring star of the Gund Cup, drilling seven of the 10 Grumpy's goals in two games.

Rod Watson's insurance goal about a minute-and-a-half into the 14-minute stop-time third period was a big one for Grumpy's. Brian Sutton added the other goal for the winners. Assists went to Harry Weekes, Tuck Hall, Mark Stone and Frank Salvoni.

Don Saver and Dave MacMillan scored for Yoga College. Credited with assists were Pete Whitehead, Gunnar Gladics and Noah Loyd.
