Heavy equipment operators sought

The Twin Falls District of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the Sawtooth National Forest are seeking heavy equipment operators interested in contracting with the federal government to help fight wildfires this summer. Working with the local Small Business Administration, the agencies will be hosting several "Contractor Rodeos" for heavy equipment operators on March 27-28.

The federal government uses such events to sign people up as contractors or vendors to provide specific services during the wildfire season. Owners interested in using their equipment to help with wildland fire-suppression efforts must contract with the BLM or Forest Service through an emergency equipment rental agreement, a news release from the agencies states.

Locally, the agencies will be holding a contractor rodeo on March 27 from noon to 7 p.m. at the Sawtooth National Recreation Area headquarters off state Highway 75 north of Ketchum.

For more information including a list of personal information potential contractors must provide, contact Irene Gonzalez at the Small Business Administration at (208) 334-9004, ext. 349.
