Webcast addresses living in the present

Remote by ground transportation and by air, the Wood River Valley manages to make available access to current events, speakers, entertainers and educational opportunities. Light on the Mountains Spiritual Center will present a special 10-week webcast, "Eckhart Tolle: A New Earth," by way of the influential Oprah Winfrey Book Club.

The seminar will begin Wednesday, March 12, at 6:30 p.m. and continue for 10 weeks, at Light on the Mountains. The webcast will be followed by the "Class After the Class," with Rev. John Moreland.

What makes Tolle's presentation different is the "clarity and individuality of how he serves it up," Moreland said. "He puts it together in such a clear way that people respond to it. It's very direct approach. It's not so esoteric that it goes over people's heads."

Light on the Mountains chose to show each of the segments a week after it originally airs online.

"We're purposefully doing it a week later and downloading the webcast. Someone can watch it live and then watch it with a group and have a discussion during the 'Class After the Class.'"

Tolle is the author of the New York Times bestseller "The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment" (translated into 33 languages), the highly acclaimed follow-up "A New Earth," "Stillness Speaks" and "Practicing the Power of Now."

A teacher and author born in Germany and educated at the Universities of London and Cambridge, Tolle experienced "a profound inner transformation (that) radically changed the course of his life," his Web biography states.

Since then he has devoted his life to understanding, integrating and deepening that transformation. His teachings pertain to the transformation of consciousness, a spiritual awakening that he sees as the next step in human evolution.

"Staying in the present moment is the way to eliminate the suffering created through identifying with the mind," he writes. In "A New Earth," Tolle elaborates on the subject while exploring how an awakened consciousness can align people with their life purpose.

A much sought-after public speaker, Tolle teaches and travels extensively. His talks, intensives and retreats are published on CD and DVD.

He has lived in Vancouver, British Columbia, since 1996.

The cost of participating in the 10-week course is free but donations are accepted. To register call 727-1631 or e-mail office@lightonthemountain.com.
