Area students win Congressional awards

Seven Blaine County students were awarded Congressional Award Medals at a ceremony last month at Vera C. O'Leary Junior High School in Twin Falls.

The program was established in 1979 to honor young men and women between the ages of 14 and 24 for commitment and dedication to public service, physical fitness and personal growth.

Chloe Lynn, a senior at The Community School, was awarded a silver medal for involvement in numerous school fundraisers and support of non-profit organizations. She was a volunteer at Souper Supper, Adaptive Sports Camp, The Community School garage sale and the Sun Valley Arts Festival.

The other six awardees were honored with bronze medals.

Johnny Dilley, a student at Wood River High School, volunteered with a women's group to help elevate their position in society and founded a program to bring non-English speakers into the high school chess club.

Caroline Fairchild, The Community School, did volunteer work at the Environmental Resource Center, The Community School garage sale and as a referee for middle school basketball games. She also performed in several local theatrical productions.

Hannah Hennessy, The Community School, did volunteer work with Girls on the Run, Souper Supper, The Community School garage sale, Thanksgiving canned food drive, Boulder Mountain Tour and several youth sporting events.

Julianna Lamb, The Community School, volunteered with the Sun Valley Figure Skating Club. She also trained to improve her ice skating skills to pass to senior competition level.

Bronwen Raff, The Community School, did volunteer work with Girls on the Run, Relay for Life, Hunger Coalition and the Jay Owenhouse Magic Show. She also helped evacuate residents during the Castle Rock Fire.

Mary VanZeipel, Wood River High School, did volunteer work with the Blaine County Teen Auxiliary Council, Relay for Life, the duck race, a Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness trip and a rock-climbing camp.
