Firefighters? association pledges funds

The Wood River Fire & Rescue Firefighter's Association received $20,000 in donations in 2007. More than $9,000 of that was pledged to support victims of tragic accidents and to provide improved equipment and training to association members. Within the first two months of 2008, another $3,750 was pledged.

The Hailey-based nonprofit organization is affiliated with Wood River Fire & Rescue.

"Between our duties as firefighters and EMTs, with the Castle Rock Fire and all the other action this year, we're happy we managed to do as much as we did through our association," Wood River Fire & Rescue Firefighter's Association President Charlie Butterfield said. "Many organizations valley-wide gave generously of money, time and goods, and our members volunteered many hours of their time to make 2007 a successful year."

The funds were raised through an annual fundraiser with musician Muzzie Braun and donations collected during the Castle Rock Fire last summer and a subsequent benefit concert. They were distributed by the Ketchum-Sun Valley Firefighter's Association.

"I am continually impressedby the generosity of this community and the hard work of our members," said Secretary Bass Sears.
