Smooth rolling in Sun Valley

City paths slated for improvements

Cyclists and dog walkers have more than just sunny days to look forward to this summer, as Sun Valley has approximately 25,000 linear feet of paved paths scheduled for improvement.

The city set a March 18 deadline for construction bids for four sections of pathway, including one measuring about two and a half miles from the intersection of state Highway 75 and Sun Valley Road to Village Way in Elkhorn.

In the advertisement for bids, Sun Valley City Engineer Elizabeth Roberts identified the three other portions as the Morningstar Path, from the east side of Crown Ranch Road to the northern intersection with Elkhorn Road, and the North and South Village Way paths through Elkhorn Village.

The project will recycle the existing asphalt surface by grinding it and mixing it with concrete to form a new base for the paths.

In addition, there will be improvements to drainage on the shoulder of the path.

Along with the bike path, a similar process will be applied to the entirety of both Grey Eagle Road and Sunrise Drive.

Roberts said the city is aiming to have "substantial completion" of the pathway work done by July 4, and by July 25 for the streets.
