Former Hailey Police Chief Brian McNary found himself back on police records last week after he subdued an irate juvenile who had allegedly punched him in the side of the face.

The Blaine County Sheriff's Office reported Monday that the juvenile, a 17-year-old Hailey youth, was trying to procure prescription drugs from a resident at a home east of Hailey and became irate when the person wouldn't give him any.

The fracas occurred shortly before midnight on Sunday, Feb. 17, at a home on Quigley Road. According to the sheriff's report, McNary doesn't live there but was visiting a friend. The friend's 17-year-old son had possession of a prescription drug and the other youth showed up and asked for some, the report states.

When his request was refused, the boy became irate, started pushing the other boy and refused to leave the premises. McNary intervened and was struck in the side of the head, the report states.

"The kid hit him in the head, so Brian took him to the ground," said Sheriff's Lt. Jay Davis.

The sheriff's office was called and the juvenile was arrested on charges of trespass and battery.
