ITD plans more DUI mobilizations

The Idaho Transportation Department has announced it will conduct more "safety mobilizations" targeting impaired drivers.

Overtime patrols are funded through a federal grant administered by ITD.

Next on ITD's list is the St. Patrick's Day celebration, which the department has targeted for March 12-19.

The ITD stated in a press release that its mobilization from Dec. 19 through Jan. 2 led to 411 DUI arrests statewide. Police agencies throughout the state cooperated in the mobilization.

Jigsaw lunch on Friday

Jigsaw, a nonprofit organization that promotes educational and networking opportunities for entrepreneurs, will host a "brown bag" lunch on Friday, Feb. 29, from noon to 1:15 p.m. at the Zions Bank conference room in Ketchum.

Linde Hoff, development officer for Zions Bank, will talk about assembling a financial team for business success. She will discuss determining the composition of a business, such as including a bookkeeper, accountant, lawyer or banker.

The cost of the lunch is free to Jigsaw members and $8 for non-members. For more information, contact Jima Rice at 726-1848.

Spring ski deals offered

Starting March 1 and continuing through the rest of the ski season, Sun Valley Co. is offering deals to students, faculty and families.

College students and faculty can ski for $29 per day with the presentation of a valid identification card.

In addition, children 15 years old and under get one free lift ticket with each paid adult ticket for the same number of days.

Climbing competition at the Y

The Wood River Community YMCA in Ketchum will host the first-ever YGAMES climbing competition on Saturday, March 1. The competition will benefit the 2008 Y Partner's Campaign.

The day's events will kick off at 9 a.m. with adult climbing for two hours, followed at 11 a.m. by the Dream Team Pledge Drive climbing hour, in which pledges can be made based on the number of climbs fully and cleanly completed during the course of an hour.

From 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. will be kids' climbing and the adults finals will be held at 2:30 p.m., at which time a mixer will begin as well.

Landscape Design 101 set

The Sawtooth Botanical Garden will host a workshop on turning your dreams into reality from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 8. Jon Wilkes, owner of Branching Out Nursery, will present a lecture on landscape design basics. Wilkes has lived and worked in the valley for 20 years as a certified arborist and horticulturist. Cost is $15 for SBG members and $20 for non-members
