A pink-hued twilight, an ice-carved champagne bar, miles of groomed trails and a collection of enthusiastic supporters set the stage for the Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research's third annual Moonlight Showshoe Celebration, held Saturday, Feb. 16, in Elkhorn.

The Moonlight Snowshoe Celebration raised approximately $40,000 through donations and the auctions.

"It is my mission in life that my daughter and nieces will be able to tell a story to the children in their life, that might go something like this: 'Once upon a time, there was this disease called breast cancer ...'" EI board member and event Co-Chairwoman Suzanne Mulenos said during the event.

Among the guests were the chairwoman of the EI board of directors, Heidi Mickelson, and EI medical advisory board member Dr. Ron Dorn, who spoke to the crowd about climbing Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina with EI founder Laura Evans. The evening concluded with a rollicking good time featuring Ketchum comic Mike Murphy.

Proceeds from the Snowshoe Celebration will help fund Expedition Inspiration's 12th annual Laura Evans Memorial Breast Cancer Medical Symposium and subsequent Collaborative and Young Investigator grants. The symposium will be held in Sun Valley from March 5-9.
