Quite possibly there is no more fitting marriage in skiing than Alpine Orthopedics sponsoring the Alpine Freestyle Championships at Bridger Bowl in Bozeman, Mont., Feb. 16-17.

Coach John Zuck took nine members of the Sun Valley freestyle team to Bozeman, where they competed in single and dual mogul events on Bronco Face run.

Seven of the nine Sun Valley skiers made it on the podium, displaying athleticism and skill on a challenging course.

"The course was 28 degrees, just a tad steeper than the World Cup course at Deer Valley," Zuck said. "But at 200 meters it was not nearly as long."

Zana Davey threw a 360 and a spread to win duals over former teammate Katie Fieguth, now living in Montana. Trevor Norris, a M4, made it to the third round of men's duals before bowing out.

Davey also claimed both F3 class titles in single moguls. Nathan Moses and Trevor Norris were also two-time class champions in singles.

"Nathan won in the J3s, which is a pretty big group," Zuck said.

The Sun Valley team is gearing up for the Divisional Championships at Park City, Utah, Feb, 28-March 2. Results:

Moguls #1/#2

Girls—F1: Katie Fieguth 1/1. F2: Anita Vorsteveld 3/5. F3: Zana Davey 1/1.

Boys—M2: Austin Moses 5/3; Parker Page 8/5. M3: Nathan Moses 1/1; Connor Braatz 3/DNS. M4: Trevor Norris 1/1; Wyatt Wilson 2/3; Benjamin Parker 7/7.

Riders strike a podium pose in slopestyle

Members of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation's snowboard team made a trip to Utah over the holiday weekend to participate in Sunday's slopestyle event at Brighton Ski Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon near Salt Lake City.

"We rarely train slopestyle, so we went down a day early for a full day of training on Saturday," coach Andy Gilbert said. The extra work paid off.

In a field of 102 riders, Scott Fairfax pulled off the victory in the Junior Men's class.

"It was a heckuva week for Scott. He was second at Park City last week, then he comes home and wins the Wood River talent show and then he wins the slopestyle at Brighton. He was stoked," Gilbert said.

Wyatt Bunce was 6th and J.J. Martin 10th.

Heather Black claimed the Junior Women's title and Scott Pike rode to second place in the Open Class.

"It was a little bit questionable whether he won or not, but it put Scott in a good position to qualify for nationals, which is what we are trying to do with all the kids," said Gilbert.

In Youth classes (ages 14-15), Bria Gillespie finished 4th. Mal Prior was the top local with a 5th, followed by Reed Burdge in 7th, Hayden Burdge 8th, Ross Bird 9th, Cody Swenke 12th and Cameron Murphy 14th.
