Lodge Dining Room could close for dinner during summer

Facility would likely be used for banquets

The formal dining room at the Sun Valley Lodge could be closed to diners during summer.

"It looks like there's a 90 percent chance it will close," said Sun Valley Co. marketing director Jack Sibbach.

Sibbach said Sun Valley Co. General Manager Wally Huffman will meet with the resort's food and beverage department in the coming week to make the decision.

Sibbach said that there's been talk about keeping the restaurant open for Sunday brunch, but that also has yet to be decided.

"The summer has been a tough sell for the dining room over the last few years," Sibbach said. "Having the Trail Creek Cabin open in the summer has taken away business and it seems like more people want to eat outside during the beautiful summer months."

However, Sibbach said the Lodge Dining Room would still be put to use, as there's a need for banquet and meeting space.

He added that the new golf club house at the resort, which will have a restaurant, is scheduled to open Aug. 1 and could also draw patronage away from the dining room.
