Five deer killed in late-night crash

Five dead deer were found on the east side of state Highway 75 in Hailey early Sunday morning, apparently killed in a collision with a vehicle.

The Hailey Police Department was dispatched at 3:05 a.m. to remove the carcasses from the middle of the highway. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game removed them from the side of the road around 10 a.m. The group consisted of four does and one fawn.

Fish and Game Conservation Officer Lee Garwood said it appears that the deer were crossing the highway from the Woodside area to the Flying Hat Ranch and were struck by a northbound vehicle.

"There were car parts laying around, pieces of plastic and the like," Garwood said. "Whoever hit those things knew they had been in a pretty bad crash."

Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter concurred: "There would definitely be some car damage."
