Hailey Mayor Rick Davis and the City Council officially named Heather Dawson as the new city administrator Monday night. Dawson will step down from her dual role as treasurer and clerk for the city, leaving two open job positions in her wake.

Becky Stokes will serve as city treasurer, while the mayor's office continues looking for someone to fill the city clerk position.

"I enjoy the dramatic tension of the political stage, and am motivated to integrate such tensions," Dawson said of her many years of public service. "I've been watching leadership in Hailey for many years, and have yearned to put my skills to work in the capacity of city administrator. I'm grateful to be able to begin that role in Hailey."

In a memo issued by the mayor's office early this week, Davis applauded Dawson's work as chief financial officer and budget planner for the city over the past 18 years.

"Hailey's financial portfolio has improved significantly since 1990, when Dawson first took her appointed office," the mayor wrote. "Dawson assisted the City Council in recent implementation of development impact fees, a local option tax, and well-negotiated annexation fees."

The mayor also noted that in her role, Dawson's expertise will prove helpful in implementing one of his top priorities, the recently adopted capital improvement plan.

The salary range for the city administrator position was set at $85,000 to $105,000. Dawson's starting salary will be $89,440.
