About 200 kids from southern Idaho and northern Nevada competed Saturday, Jan. 19 when Snake River Swimming kicked off its 2008 season with the annual Igloo Pentathlon held in the bubble-covered Twin Falls YMCA pool.
Jon Atkinson, 15, led 14 SV5B swimmers with a personal-best 52.93 seconds in the men's 15-over 100 free event, good for second place behind Daniel Bryant of Nampa (51.95).
SV5B's Lena Friesen, 13, grabbed second-place finishes in 100 breast and girls' 13-14 200 individual medley, in both races placing behind winner Lexy VanCampen, Nampa.
SV5B swimmers also competed Feb. 2-3 in the Caldwell Cabin Fever Invitational at Albertson College of Idaho Aquatic Center, Caldwell.
Gold medal winners were Kaedi Fry, Lena Friesen, Sean Sutton and Jon Atkinson. Earning silver at Caldwell were Fry, Friesen, Forrest Davis, Megan Hayes, Samantha Sutton, Racheal McGinnis and Sean Sutton. Taking the bronze were Sean Sutton, Taylor Coiner, Atkinson, McGinnis, Davis, J.T. Sutton and Friesen.
