Support Obama at caucus

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, Blaine County Democrats will have the opportunity to select their presidential nominee choice. The Super-Duper Tuesday caucus will be held at the Community Campus auditorium in Hailey. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will surely be a crowd. If you are not in line by 7 p.m., you will miss out on all the fun.

I'll be driving over from the Legislature that afternoon to make sure I cast my ballot for Barack Obama. I have just listened to his South Carolina victory speech—for the second time today—and I'm all fired up and ready to go.

Obama is an easy choice for me. Our country is ready for a change and he represents change in the very best way. We are tired of the Washington "business-as-usual" approach to government. We do want a change in the status quo and we're ready to believe in a transformation of our country both home and abroad. He will win a new majority for change, so we can finally solve the problems we have been talking about for decades, like health care, crumbling schools and jobs for people who have been shut out by closed-down factories, to name just a few.

What I like about Barack Obama is his honesty. He is genuine. He talks about a "shared sacrifice" which we know in our hearts we need to make to turn our country around.

Obama promises to work across party lines. He is attracting independent voters and Republicans to his campaign. The Republican pundits and pollsters fear the Obama message of "hope." Without the baggage of the other leading Democratic candidate, Obama is the unknown foe that the Republicans would rather not face.

We all know how very important this election is. It's just not enough to merely change the party in power. We need to make a fundamental change in our politics and that is why I'm supporting Barack Obama.

Please remember Feb. 5. Taking Idaho for Obama will help us win Democratic seats up and down the ticket in Idaho. We can do this!
