Geoffrey Moore takes Hailey P&Z seat

Planning panel still one person short

Veteran firefighter Geoffrey Moore was sworn in for a three-year term as Hailey Planning and Zoning Commissioner on Monday evening following his appointment by departing Mayor Susan McBryant last month. One seat remains to be filled on the Hailey P&Z before a public workshop on P&Z procedures takes place in February.

Moore, 51, moved to the Wood River Valley 15 years ago from Encinitas Calif. He is a carpenter, big-game bow hunter and was employed by the Hailey Fire Department for 11 years.

"A couple of years ago I started attending City Council meetings and just got hooked," Moore said. "I joined the Hailey Fire Department for the camaraderie and because I knew it would be fun. I've always wanted to give back to the city."

Moore was unsuccessful in his bid for a City Council seat in November 2007. At his new post he will participate in conducting design reviews and making recommendations to the City Council about proposed developments in the city.

Moore will serve alongside attorney Michael Pogue, architect Owen Scanlon and P&Z Chairwoman Stefanie Marvel. Marvel remains on the P&Z after coming up short in her November bid for a seat on the City Council.

"I think we have a good balance on the P&Z Commission," Moore said.

Moore closely followed the Old Cutters annexation into the city and said he expects a forthcoming proposal to annex the Quigley Canyon Ranch property east of the city to take "a lot of time and study."

"People need to come to meetings," he said. "They can't just show up angry about something when it is already too late to do anything about it."
